Communities of Practice: Sharing Moves

A blog post from Alex McCabe and Stefanie Schwimmbeck’s first residency at The Workroom in Glasgow, Scotland.

In contrast to the rural setting for their first residency week, on Monday 25 August, Stefanie and Alex came together again with Emma in the city of Glasgow. For the second week of their residency in Scotland, they were based in The Work Room studio, within Tramway a contemporary arts centre based within the Pollokshields neighbourhood in the southside of Glasgow.

The Work Room was established by independent dance artists in 2008 as a space for research and making. As well as being a physical, studio space, The Work Room is a network of independent artists working in dance, movement and choreography from different backgrounds, forms and at different stages of career.

Towards the end of the week, we hosted Sharing Moves as a space for Alex & Stefanie to meet some of the artists from our community, to share practice through conversation, moving and eating together. Alex & Stefanie facilitated wandering conversations in pairs for folk to reflect on their experiences of working and participating in community dance projects and feed into a process of exploring the characteristics that enable these experiences to be positive, collaborative and rooted in mutual respect.
